We are seeking skilled Service Technicians specializing in Caterpillar (CAT) equipment to join our team. We have openings for both Field Service Technicians, who perform on-site maintenance and repairs, and Shop Service Technicians, who handle comprehensive service tasks in our facility. These roles require expertise in a range of CAT equipment models used in construction, mining, and related industries.
Field Service Technician Responsibilities:
- On-Site Maintenance and Repair: Travel to customer sites to perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of CAT equipment, including but not limited to:
- Bulldozers: D6, D8, D9
- Excavators: 320, 336, 349
- Loaders: 950, 980, 988
- Articulated Trucks: 745, 777, 789
- Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Utilize CAT diagnostic tools and technical manuals to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues efficiently. Occasional operation of the machine in the determination of repair need or repair assessment may occur.
- Parts Replacement and Testing: Disassemble and assemble faulty parts, components, or systems on CAT machinery. Conduct tests and adjustments to ensure proper functionality and adherence to manufacturer specifications. Perform preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep.
- Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to emergency service calls to minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational continuity for customers.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with customers, providing service updates, explaining technical issues, and offering recommendations for equipment performance optimization.
- Load or unload equipment or components from customer-owned or common carrier vehicles as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of service activities, inspections, repairs, and parts usage. Complete service reports promptly for billing, warranty, and internal records.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA safety and Health protocols while performing tasks, identifying, and mitigating potential safety hazards.
Shop Service Technician Responsibilities:
- Shop Maintenance and Repair: Perform comprehensive maintenance and repair tasks on CAT equipment in our shop facility, including major overhauls, component rebuilds, and specialized repairs.
- Component Testing and Calibration: Test and calibrate CAT equipment components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems to ensure peak performance and reliability.
- Parts Management: Manage parts inventory in the shop, ensuring availability of necessary components for both scheduled and unscheduled repairs.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks on repaired equipment to ensure adherence to manufacturer standards and customer expectations.
- Training and Development: Stay updated on CAT equipment advancements, service bulletins, and technical manuals. Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3 - 5 years of proven experience as a Field Service Technician or Shop Technician specializing in Caterpillar equipment, with proficiency in the specific models listed above, or equivalent experience with heavy equipment or mining equipment, systems, engines, and components required.
- Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills in CAT diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
- Problem-solving Ability: Ability to diagnose complex technical issues utilizing laptop computers, gauges and instruments in all machine systems to find effective solutions promptly.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and collaborate with team members.
Work Environment:
- Field Service Technicians operate primarily at customer job sites, while Shop Service Technicians work in our facility. Occasional travel and overtime may be required based on business needs.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking while maintaining a high level of organization.
Education & Certifications:
- High school education or GED equivalent required.
- Technical, vocational, trade school education or equivalent work experience is required.
- Relevant certifications in diesel mechanics, CAT equipment maintenance, or equivalent training required.
- MSHA certified, or the ability to be MSHA certified preferred
Physical Requirements:
In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The following may be expected to be encountered: long periods of standing, frequent exposure to seasonal heat and cold, working with oils and greases. Candidates must be living within 50 miles of the location prior to starting this position.
