Responsibilities:




  • Diagnose and perform service repairs on Caterpillar construction and mining equipment as directed.







    • Bulldozers: D6, D8, D9

    • Excavators: 320, 336, 349

    • Loaders: 950, 980, 988

    • Articulated Trucks: 745, 777, 789



  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on heavy equipment, including packaging and production machinery.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. 

  • Use CAT diagnostic laptop computers, gauges, and other instruments to detect faults in electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and general machine systems. 

  • Operate equipment as needed to assist in troubleshooting or verify repair effectiveness. 

  • Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized Fabick-provided tooling. 

  • Perform occasional basic welding tasks as required for repair and maintenance work. 

  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders to perform service tasks accurately. 

  • Research parts requirements and assist in the ordering process to complete repairs efficiently. 

  • Load and unload equipment or components from customer-owned or commercial carrier vehicles in a safe and secure manner. 

  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA Safety and Health standards and Fabick Cat safety policies. 

  • Perform any and all duties as assigned by supervision or management to support department operations.



 

Qualifications:



  • Qualifications:



    • Experience: 2 - 5 years of proven experience as a Shop Technician specializing in Caterpillar equipment, with proficiency in the specific models listed above, or equivalent experience with heavy equipment or mining equipment, systems, engines, and components required.

    • Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills in CAT diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.

    • Problem-solving Ability: Ability to diagnose complex technical issues utilizing laptop computers, gauges and instruments in all machine systems to find effective solutions promptly.

    • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and collaborate with team members.

    • MSHA certified, or the ability to be MSHA certified.

In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
