Ziegler Energy Solutions, part of the Ziegler Companies family, is a growing leader in the development, design, integration, and construction of turnkey energy and infrastructure systems, including solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. We are currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our team and drive delivery of high-impact electrification projects from initial budgeting and planning through commissioning and customer acceptance. Projects may range from complex microgrids and utility-scale solar to battery storage and fleet EV charging systems. You must be able to work on-sight at our Monticello, MN location, as well as travel 25%.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with the sales team for pre-bid activities, including site walkthroughs, preparation of materials, and subcontractor cost estimation.

  • Acts as the primary liaison among internal teams, clients, subcontractors, utilities, and permitting agencies.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates detailed project schedules using MS Project or equivalent scheduling tools.
  • Identifies, monitors, and mitigates risks related to scope, schedule, budget, and compliance.
  • Collaborates with engineering teams during design reviews to ensure constructability, code compliance, interconnection readiness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversees procurement and logistics for long-lead equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear, inverters, batteries), ensuring timely delivery and cost control.
  • Verifies all equipment and materials meet project specifications, utility interconnection standards, and applicable domestic content requirements (e.g., Buy American, IRA incentives).
  • Leads pre-construction planning efforts including site walks, mobilization planning, safety protocols, and subcontractor onboarding.
  • Manages field execution, including subcontractor oversight, daily progress tracking, safety enforcement, and real-time problem resolution.
  • Administers EPC and subcontractor contracts, including review and processing of change orders, claims, and milestone-based payments.
  • Coordinates with customers, utilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance, communication, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Oversee scheduling and execution of testing, commissioning, and system startup activities in collaboration with electricians, technicians, utility personnel, and service teams.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to junior project managers and project coordinators.
  • Supports business development, estimating, and preconstruction teams on complex or high-value bids and proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician, with at least 5 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or utility-scale project management for solar, BESS, EV charging infrastructure and microgrids.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing commercial, industrial, or utility-scale projects involving solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EV charging infrastructure
  • Demonstrated success managing the end-to-end delivery of energy projects, including permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and interconnection.
  • Experience with utility-scale or large commercial and industrial (C&I) systems, preferably in both ground-mount and rooftop PV, battery energy storage, and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, site layout, civil and structural coordination, and interconnection processes.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, UL, IEEE standards, and AHJ/utility requirements.
  • Understanding of energy management systems (EMS), SCADA integration, and microgrid control architectures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction and commissioning of UL 9540A and NFPA855 compliant BESS systems.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection rules and experience working with investor owned utilities, municipalities, or cooperatives.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in project tracking tools such as MS Project or similar
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, subcontractor scope, and construction progress tracking.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driver’s license

Travel:

  • Up to 25% travel. Some night, weekend, and holiday work may be necessary for off-hour project testing commissioning. Overnight travel is required for certain projects.
