Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this individual will oversee, prepare and coordinate the production of engineered drawings and documents for both internal and external customers. The individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of engineering and design work, together with the production and accuracy of the information. In addition, the individual must conduct comprehensive design reviews ensuring functionality, sound engineering practices and adherence to regulatory/customer requirements.Determines priorities and business/customer needs, ensuring continuous improvement in the engineered solution to facilitate revenue growth and profits.
Additionally, this individual shall follow all the compliance activities across Finning (Canada) as mandated by EGBC, APEGA and Safety Authorities. Furthermore, the expectation is to manage the technical risks, liabilities and intellectual properties of Finning.
The total annual compensation target for this position is $102,000 - $120,000.
Job Description:
- Monitor technical scope, schedule and implement design work while ensuring the accuracy of work. Work together with other departments to achieve project targets.
- Maintain a proactive approach about obstacles that could affect the cost, quality and timeliness of project delivery.
- Review all engineering inquiries and prepare timely responses to stakeholders.
- Liaison with the project and operation teams to provide support and guidance as necessary.
- Interface with suppliers, packagers, customers and regulatory authorities throughout the project.
- Manage and maintain effective relationships between internal (project, service) and external (customer, suppliers, regulatory authority) stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
- Travel to sites for commissioning electrical systems.
Education & Experience:
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or APEGA. Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) with relevant experience would also be considered
- 3 to 5 years of formal training and experience in industrial design with at least 2 years as a project engineer
- Knowledge and experience in Power Generation and Power System design, with emphasis on diesel and natural gas generator sets.
- Knowledge and experience of switchgears, transfer switches, MCCs,
- Knowledge and experience in powerhouse design including HVAC control.
- Knowledge of Generator and Power System controls, protections, grounding/bonding designs, electrical or mechanical designs, and electrical or mechanical equipment sizing
- Knowledge of Power Systems technologies and applications.
- Knowledge of applicable Codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices (CSA, CEC, IEEE, cUL, etc.).
- Experience drafting electrical schematics using AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience programming and commissioning automation control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA) with platforms such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider, etc.
- Experience programming and commissioning generator control systems such as Woodward, DEIF, ComAp, etc.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and internal systems, expert-level knowledge of MS Excel and advanced knowledge of MS Office coupled with MS Project.
- Must possess superior engineering skills and be capable of interacting with all engineering disciplines.
- Able to apply electrical engineering techniques to concept design, detailed estimates, component verification, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
- Strong attention to detail.
