Overview

The role of Sales Engineer will interface daily with customers, other departments, and suppliers. Maintains and grows customer base and relationships in a designated sales territory. Serve customers by identifying their needs; engineering adaptations of products, equipment, and detailed explanation of services provided.

Basic Duties

  • Identify prospects, develop current and future customer relationships, evaluate needs; make recommendations using proper application principals, make effective sales presentations and close sales.
  • Manage the sales territory with emphasis on developing new customer accounts meeting requirements set by the department. Analyze the market, competitive situations and implement a sales strategy consistent with the department’s long- range sales objectives.
  • Establishes new accounts and services accounts by identifying potential customers; planning and organizing external sales call schedule.
  • Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, architects, and other professional and technical personnel.
  • Determine improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, suppliers, or service applications in customer environment; engineering or proposing changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or vendor services.
  • Achieve annual forecasted sales and account goals set forth by management.
  • Contributes to sales profitability by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to
  • deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.
  • Understand and follow credit department procedures and policies to obtain credit approval for all customers.  Assist credit department with collection problems.
  • Keep current on the activities of competitors and advise supervisor and document those activities which can affect the success of company objectives.
  • Maintain a high degree of sales professionalism through study and attendance at Caterpillar and other educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Work with others to prepare all paperwork necessary to fulfill the sale, including maintaining an active relationship between Altorfer and the customer to ensure customer acceptance of the products sold and to assist in collection of amounts due from customer.
  • Keep current on all product policies, factory lead times and marketing programs.
  • Maintain activities, opportunities, accounts, sales funnel and contact information in Sales Link.

Qualifications

  • A four year undergraduate degree from an accredited college preferred.
  • A minimum of at least five years demonstrated previous experience in power systems sales or related sales preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in excel, access, Power Point and CRM software.
  • Valid Driver’s License & Proof of Insurance required.
  • Predictable and regular attendance is required.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Good communication, organization and time management

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position works in an office environment. May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. Some local travel may be required. There may be times when you may need to go out into the service shop or warehouse area and will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields).
