Heavy Rental Equipment Technician
The Heavy Rental Equipment Technician is responsible for preparing the Heavy Rents fleet according to Western States’ standards in order to meet or exceed the client’s needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to checking construction and support equipment in and out of inventory, loading and unloading rental fleet, moving and organizing equipment throughout the yard, and performing advanced level repair and maintenance on rental fleet in an effort to maintain optimum availability.

JOB SUMMARY: The Heavy Rents Technician is responsible for preparing the Heavy Rents fleet according to Western States’ standards in order to meet or exceed the client’s needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to checking construction and support equipment in and out of inventory, loading and unloading rental fleet, moving and organizing equipment throughout the yard, and performing advanced level repair and maintenance on rental fleet in an effort to maintain optimum availability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety
- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Ability to complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) prior to any job-related tasks according to WSECO’s policy and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environment for all WSECO employees.
- Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
Diagnosis, Maintenance, and Repair
- Identifies and repairs operational and safety issues on construction and support equipment, according to provided checklists.
- Operates, repairs, and services multiple types of Caterpillar rental equipment and allied brands.
- Performs all repairs, annual inspections, and preventative maintenance services on MEWP and rental fleet equipment.
Engines, Undercarriage, and Powertrain
- Performs advanced repairs of mobile equipment engine, undercarriage, and powertrain components.
Electrical and Hydraulic
- Troubleshoots and repairs advanced electrical system and components.
- Advanced troubleshooting and repairs of hydraulic components and systems.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to navigate Microsoft products.
- Experience with specialty tooling.
- Ability to obtain job related certifications for any specialty equipment including but not limited to forklifts, rigging, and overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of Service Information Systems and division specific applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Consistent attendance with the ability to work overtime and travel, as needed.
- Working within and promoting Western States’ purpose, vision and values.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Associates degree in diesel technology or trade school diploma preferred.
- Minimum of three years industry experience required. (i.e. Rental fleet, Mobile, and Allied equipment)
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- Appropriate technician level tooling required.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
