JOB SUMMARY:
Facilitates and supports supervisors and employees in developing a Safety Culture within Empire’s work groups. Works with supervisors from all departments to mentor and train employees in best safety practices. Develops and implements innovative safety programs complying with both Empire’s and the Mine Site Client’s best safety practices and policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Mentor’s Empire’s employees at the Client Mine site to lead the development of safety awareness and safe work habits focusing on facilities, work area, tooling, equipment, service trucks and work processes.
• Plans, organizes, and facilitates safety activities for Empire employees at Client Mine Site to include safety briefings, safety compliance training, and supports and ensures that supervisors are in compliance with required employee training, and coordinate and schedule all resident and transient Empire employees to FMI required classes.
• Provides Client MSHA training as required.
• Establishes and leads Empire Morenci Operations Leadership Team to conduct Root Cause Analyses of all incidents and near misses.
• Works with Empire Morenci Operations Leadership Team to conduct detailed safety assessments of work areas; including identifying:
◦ Existing or potential hazards, including unsafe acts, in the tasks being performed.
◦ Working conditions that are unsafe, hazardous or dangerous to the safety and health of employees and the environment.
◦ Any non-conformance with the Client’s Health & Safety rules and policies, including at-risk behavior.
◦ Authorizing prompt action to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
• Provides best practice safety instruction with employees.
• Plans, organizes and facilitates safety training to area supervisors on identified Federal, State, Local, and Empire Safety Policies.
• Works with area Supervisors and corporate safety department to review and evaluate Corporate Safety Polices and Procedures to ensure comprehension and uniform compliance.
• Works with Supervisors and the Training Department to assure all training compliance and proactive requirements are met.
• Uses the Training Department’s Learning Management System to verify the employees are enrolled and courses are completed.
• Ensures compliance with Client site safety regulations and requirements, and site specific training programs.
• Collaborates with Client and key Mine Site Health & Safety management on site to ensure effective communications focused on meeting or exceeding Client’s expectations in creating an effective safety program and ensuring contractual safety obligations.
• Attends Client’s contractor safety meetings monthly or as scheduled.
• Maintains full understanding and knowledge of Client’s safety program and requirements and maintains close working relationship with Client site Safety Management.
• Works on company-wide safety policy, program, training, and other efforts as assigned by General Manager Morenci Operations or Empire Safety Manager.
• Create an environment of ownership and personal accountability where each person is responsible and accountable for their performance.
• Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Verifies all Safety training records for mine site personnel are up to date through use of training matrix developed by Safety Supervisor.
• Works in coordination with Empire’s mine site General Manager to ensure all applicable safety standards are met.
• Maintains knowledge of MSDS procedures and management system.
• Assures that adequate Personal Protective Equipment supplies are available.
• Provides training on Personal Protective Equipment.
• Coordinates and schedules PIT driving training for all Empire Southwest employees Trains MSHA for Empire Southwest Morenci and transient employees.
• Serves on the Corporate SCIP team.
• Acts as a resource for Empire employees throughout the company.
• Works within and promotes corporate values.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains the Mine Site Requirements information on the intranet.
• Assists Safety with mining-related safety initiatives, as necessary.
• Participates in the Safety Department and HR Department meetings.
• Participates in OSHA and DOT training as possible to provide a better understanding of how these regulations integrate into MSHA regulations.
• Conducts training across all Empire Southwest divisions on Morenci site specific safety requirements to ensure compliance with client’s expectations.
• Assists the Training Department with MSHA training as needed.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of proper operation and repairs of construction and mining equipment.
• Knowledge of Crane operation and rigging.
• Knowledge of essential blocking, cribbing applications.
• Ability to travel with field employees.
• Able to work a flexible schedule to work with differential shift employees.
• Trained or certified in all tasked areas required of employees (e.g. MSHA, CDL, 1st Aid, etc.).
• Must complete and remain current on required Client site Training and other educational requirements as advised by the Client site management staff.
• Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Seven to ten years’ experience in safety compliance.
• MSHA Safety Certification required.
• Experience as a trainer of MSHA and OSHA regulations.
• EMT, CPR and First Responder trainer experience and/or certifications preferred.
• Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
