Certified Welding Inspector - Surface Mining
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Job Role
Tests and inspects ongoing and finished welding work.
Ensures work is done according to acceptable specifications for quality and safety.
Inspects work for strength, size, visible and hidden cracks and other faults.
Assists welders in avoiding errors that could have negative repercussions in the finished work by being directly involved at every stage of the job.
Uses proper equipment designed to easily detect faults.
Uses highly sensitive ultrasonic and stress analysis devices. Completes x-rays to check for faults that are not visible to the human eye.
Ensures welders use the proper methods and equipment in carrying out their work.
Approves jobs.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Formal Education: High School diploma or GEDExperience: 5-6 years
Required / Credentials
Able to easily and effectively comprehend written material and communicate orally and in writing with employees and customers.
Must obtain the Certification of Welding Inspectors.
AGMA Gear Failure Analysis Seminar, EDDY Current Testing Level I,II, Magnetic Particle Testing Level I,II, Ultrasonic Testing Level I,II, Phased Array/Advanced (w/PDQ Examinations), Advanced Phased Array for Flaw Dimensioning and Crack Sizing.
Updating of Knowledge
Job requirements change requiring re-training to stay current every 1-2 years.
