Power Systems Shop Technician
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs troubleshooting and inspection of customer equipment and trucks, using testing and diagnostic equipment; removes, repairs, and/or replaces components and parts on engine, hydraulic, brake, air, fuel, transmission/powertrain, and electrical systems, while following company standards for work quality and safety; uses a computer to prepare and submit accurate service reports within established timeframes; works with customers and supervisory staff in a professional manner to maintain workflow and meet production requirements; reads and interprets parts books, service manuals and electrical/hydraulic system schematics; follows all Contamination Control guidelines.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates industrial equipment, trucks and machinery to ensure proper operation following service and/or repair; performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
Knowledge of diesel mechanics and hydraulics systems, demonstrated mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability; ability to safely perform work, including crane and rigging procedures; ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate effective use of available resources; ability to operate a wide variety of tools and equipment; ability to work with customers, vendors, and coworkers in a safe and courteous manner; ability to safely operate motor vehicles and job-related equipment; ability to demonstrate professional verbal and written communications skills (including reading, writing, and understanding English); basic math computation skill; basic computer skill.
Education/Formal Training/Licensing
Vocational/technical school training in diesel technology or equivalent experience preferred; Forklift and/or Caterpillar product-specific training preferred; valid drivers’ license required.
Experience
Experience performing maintenance and repair on multiple types of forklifts, construction/mining equipment, power systems, trucks, heavy industrial/diesel engines or hydraulic systems preferred. Direct experience with forklift or Caterpillar equipment preferred.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Hand/power tools; measuring tools; personal computer; mobile phone; overhead crane/hoist; lifting slings/chains; electronic testing equipment; hydraulic testing equipment; oxy/acetylene torch and welders; other specialized tooling and equipment; company vehicles; personal protective equipment/clothing.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
- Outdoor and indoor environments, moderate to loud noise levels
- Standing for long periods on concrete or other hard surfaces; walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing
- Frequent use of ladders and steps for accessing equipment
- Frequent lifting up to 50lbs with or without assistance
- Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, manipulating tools/objects, and writing/typing
- Some exposure to all outdoor weather conditions
- Frequent exposure to substances, including/not limited to: industrial chemicals, hydraulic fluid, grease, oil and dirt
- Some exposure to dangerous environments, including mine sites and construction sites required
- Overtime, varying schedules, and overnight stays away from home may be required
