At Puckett Machinery, we power Mississippi forward. As the exclusive Caterpillar® dealer serving central and southern Mississippi, we equip our customers with the tools and tech they need to build, move, and innovate. Now we’re looking for a Field Service Technician to join our service team—and hit the road bringing top-tier service directly to the job site.

This role is ideal for experienced diesel techs who want more autonomy, variety, and impact in their day-to-day work. You’ll operate a fully equipped service truck, respond to customer calls, and perform diagnostics and repairs on some of the most advanced heavy equipment in the field.

What You’ll Do:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar and allied diesel-powered heavy equipment at customer job sites—safely, efficiently, and with a strong customer-first mindset.
  • Perform hands-on service work including disassembly, assembly, installation, and troubleshooting of hydraulic, powertrain, electrical (AC/DC), and diesel engine systems.
  • Use industry-best tools and technical systems to test, measure, and adjust machine components.
  • Determine reusability of parts based on OEM standards and coordinate part orders with your supervisor.
  • Complete detailed service reports on all inspections and repairs using standard procedures—accurate, timely, and clear.
  • Act as a technical ambassador: answer customer questions, provide insight on repairs, and represent Puckett with professionalism and expertise.
  • Maintain all vehicle logs, DOT documentation, and comply with transportation and safety regulations.
  • Keep your assigned service truck clean, well-maintained, and ready to roll.
  • Stay up to date on tools, technologies, and industry best practices to deliver top-tier service every time.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Technical training or military mechanical experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on diesel technician experience, preferably with Caterpillar or competitive heavy equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience in a field service environment preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Basic welding and cutting skills a plus.
  • Ability to read technical schematics and perform accurate troubleshooting.
  • Class D driver’s license and DOT medical card or the ability to obtain upon hire or within agreed timeframe
  • Clean MVR required.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and ability to work in compliance with all safety and transport standards.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions, often 8–12 hour shifts, with overtime and emergency calls as needed.
  • Must provide a personal set of hand tools (wrenches, sockets, drives, etc.).
