Service Manager-Floor Equipment
Puckett Machinery Company/Puckett Rents is expanding into the floor care and surface preparation market. We are seeking a results-driven Service Manager to lead our new flooring equipment division.
The Service Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day service operations including field- and shop-based repairs, preventative maintenance, technical support, scheduling, safety compliance, and team performance. The ideal candidate will blend mechanical expertise with strong leadership, customer service, and process management skills.
This is a hands-on leadership position. During the initial growth phase of this business unit, the Service Manager will perform direct repair work, field service calls and preventative maintenance, while also building the long-term service team and infrastructure.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and coach service technicians (shop and field), service administrators, and yard personnel to endure productivity, quality, and professionalism in every customer interaction.
- Provide ongoing training and development for technicians.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment, enforce use of PPE and OSHA/DOT compliance.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, performance reviews, and corrective actions as necessary.
Operational Management:
- Coordinate service operations for a range of equipment including floor scrubbers, sweepers, burnishers, extractors, and vacuums (Tennant and other brands).
- Supervise job scheduling, dispatch, parts logistics, and customer communication throughout the service lifecycle.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs and diagnostic repair services, including electrical and hydraulics troubleshooting, system recalibration, and software updates.
- Maintain service records and reports.
Customer Service & Communication:
- Ensure timely and professional communication with customers regarding diagnostics, repair timelines, billing, and future service needs.
- Partner with sales and rental teams to deliver seamless equipment readiness, promote service offerings, and grow customer relationships.
- Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and a customer-first mindset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical/vocational training in automotive, diesel, electric, or industrial maintenance preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in heavy equipment or electro-mechanical service environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Prior experience with industrial/commercial floor care systems strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of battery, propane, and robotic systems, electrical schematics, hydraulics systems, and combustion engines.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools, multimeters, laptops/tablets, and service documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience with ERP/work order systems (e.g. RentalMan, ServiceMax, or similar).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage a fast-paced service operation with minimal oversight.
