JOB SUMMARY

The  Used Equipment Appraiser is responsible for inspecting the condition of all makes and models of equipment for trade-in or warranty consideration. The Appraiser will systematically inspect the dealer’s machines currently on rent to a customer. Equipment training and demonstration will be provided to our construction and governmental customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspect machines for trade-in consideration so that the Used Equipment Department can assign a book value for the equipment. 
  • Takes oil samples, measures undercarriage and gets equipment history from the customer. 
  • May be required to travel out of the dealership territory to evaluate a piece of equipment Wyoming Machinery Company will purchase for the used/rental needs of the territory. 
  • Will inspect rental fleet machines that have been out more than three months to give the Rental Manager feedback on the condition of the unit.
  • Operates and evaluates equipment for mechanical condition and inspects for deficiencies related to proper operation.
  • Meets all Federal-training requirements to be on customer’s sites.
  • Able to read and understand English to read and understand Operator/Maintenance Manuals, Parts Books, Caterpillar performance handbook, spec sheets and sales training/product information.
  • Be able to speak in front of the public and customers to give technical presentations. 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

·         Fleet appraisals for customer valuations for financing. 

·         Give detailed reports of equipment condition to the Used Equipment/Rental Manager. 

·         Maintain and develop working relationship with sales representatives and customers. 

·         Have a working knowledge of heavy and light duty equipment. 

·         Be able to measure rubber tires and track type undercarriage. 

·         Have organizational skills and able to work without close supervision.

·         Knowledge of, or the ability to read and understand, Code of Federal Regulations Title 30, OSHA and MSHA Regulations that apply to training and retraining.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Operate company vehicle requiring a valid drivers’ license (driving record must meet company insurance
  • Able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend and write) in English. 
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a directly related industry
  • Caterpillar Operator training certification or ability to obtain one

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

·         In the office area, dress is business casual

·         Use of various equipment such as download USB port, laptop computer, Smart telephone, undercarriage measuring tools, oil sample kit, tape measure, and small tools

·         Working outside in various weather conditions

·         Sit or stand for extended periods.

·         Mount and dismount various types of equipment using ladders and hand and footholds

·         Frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, climbing, twisting and squatting

·         Using both hands and feet in repetitive movement.

·         Have good eye, hand and foot coordination.

·         Exposure to grease, oil, exhaust fumes and noise at various levels

·         Safely work using the proper equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE).

·         Lift/carry up to 40 lbs.

·         Meet all safety requirements on mine site (MSHA Card)

·         Working hours are 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.

·         Some overtime may be required depending on workload and project requirements

·         Hear, see and feel machine condition indicators

·         Safely operate earth moving and industrial equipment

·         Ability to travel, including overnight stays
