Power Systems Field Service Technician - Electrical Services

Ziegler CAT has an opening for a full-time, experienced Electrical Services Field Technician with excellent diagnostic experience to join our rapidly growing electrical services business. Responsible for emergency repairs, testing, modifications, and warranty service on low to medium voltage electrical power distribution and control equipment to customers surrounding our Des Moines branch. A company truck is provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and repair electric power generation equipment including gas and diesel powered generators, electrical transfer switches, electrical switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, and other related equipment at our customer’s location
  • Uses a high degree of independent judgment to repair a variety of complex equipment and tools, which involve mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems
  • Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
  • Responds to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed
  • Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
  • Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction; identify and communicate the need for parts for inventory
  • Willing to respond to after hour emergency calls as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • 2-year technical college degree in electrical services or related field; or high school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable electrical services experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in troubleshooting & repair of electrical gear and generators 
  • Knowledge of electricity and electronics, failure analysis
  • Possesses the ability to diagnose all equipment without supervision; is also able to read, follow, understand, and communicate schematics. 
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively, interact with supervisors, customers and team members
  • Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
  • Own mechanic tool set
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment including service truck
  • Willing and able to respond to after-hour emergency calls as directed by the supervisor
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record
  • Class A CDL or willingness to obtain one within a defined period
  • Obtain a DOT medical certification card
  • Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen & physical due to the role being deemed safety sensitive position
  • Able to operate equipment safely
