Job Description
Peterson Holding has the immediate need for an experienced Senior Accountant at our San Leandro, CA location.
SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant & Supervisor provides general accounting services, including general ledger maintenance and financial statement preparation; directly supervises assigned accounting personnel, and coordinates general accounting services with other departments and functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Maintain control of general and subsidiary ledgers with month-end close responsibility, including posting journal entries.
- Work with managers to resolve operating statement issues.
- Supervise, direct, and monitor the work of assigned accounting personnel including but not limited to General Accountant(s) and/or Accounting Clerk(s).
- Assist accounting and operations personnel to help resolve financial statement questions and/or problems related to on-line systems.
- Participate in the preparation of monthly financial statements, financial statement analysis (variance to prior year), management reports and narratives.
- Responsible for general and subsidiary ledger maintenance, including opening/closing accounting periods, general ledger (g/l) account and department set-up, allocations maintenance, etc.
- Primary responsibility for Business Intelligence administration and maintenance, including security, cube creation, ad-hoc report development, and user training.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts as assigned.
- Perform internal audits, report findings and make recommendations.
- Summarize and prepare various statistical analyses and accounting reports as assigned.
- Prepare year-end audit work papers and assist auditors.
- Participate in the annual physical inventory reconciliation processes.
- Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Participate in Six Sigma projects or other projects for management as needed.
- Initiate priority projects, identify process improvement opportunities, and document critical processes.
- Develop data for various government reports as assigned.
- Keep current on developments in related accounting fields.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers/ coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
- Respectfully take direction from supervisor/ manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of accounting personnel including but not limited to General Accountant(s) and Accounting Clerk(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and implementing corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. When work deficiencies are identified takes prompt and effective measures to correct areas needing improvement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited college in Business, Accounting or other closely related field; and a minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience in Business or Accounting, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

The pay range for this position is: $99,622.00 - $124,000.00 (Starting wage will depend on experience and education. We also offer a total compensation package in addition to base salary.)
