Job Summary:  The Stake Bed Delivery Driver ensures customers receive accurate equipment in a safe and timely manner. The success of this position guarantees that customers are provided with the equipment and service to get their job done.

Essential Functions:

  • Work safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Load and unload equipment; secure loaded equipment per company procedure and inspect in transit, if necessary; deliver and pick up equipment
  • Maintain accurate delivery and pickup records, to include securing the customer's signature on the contract, if not already signed
  • Perform vehicle and safety inspections, complete appropriate reports, and turn in to the Manager daily
  • Deliver pick-up ticket copies to the Dispatcher so counts can be verified before unloading
  • Inform the supervisor of difficulties with deliveries or pickups
  • Inform management of new sales opportunities and job sites
  • Start the equipment for customers
  • Know specifics and applications of rental inventory, so you can answer questions upon delivery
  • Perform the proper procedure for any broken equipment that is tagged and sent to be repaired
  • Report safety violations and other concerns to the supervisor, such as scrapes, dents, accidents, and mechanical difficulties
  • Maintain and comply with government safety requirements and other regulations, and security in the store
  • Attend department, store, and safety meetings
  • Never leave keys in vehicles or equipment
  • Always carry a driver’s license
  • Serve as a store representative
  • Observe all laws
  • Keep vehicles clean (interior and exterior)
  • Require regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of industrial engines, transportation, and safe driving procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT guidelines
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Quality control analysis skills - conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Operation and control skills - controlling the operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • The ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions
  • Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems
  • Ability to maintain a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • Must be able to use mathematics to solve problems
  • Must have a full range of motion and dexterity
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of patience
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is preferred, but not required
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel: 

  • Travel up to 100%
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must have a clean driving record

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 100% of the time
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climb up and down ladders
  • Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work 
  • Stooping, crouching, bending, lifting, lowering, reaching, twisting, pulling, pushing, carting, and carrying are intermittent tasks that routinely occur
  • Sense of smell is required

Work Environment:

  • Requires working in a closed vehicle or equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme conditions such as heavy rain, wind, or excessive temperatures
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
  • Exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene, and cleaning solvents
  • Significant time spent in confined spaces and/or high places
  • Some electrical equipment is delivered, although it is not a requirement to install or service the equipment. If lighting is required (the installation of extension cords and lamps), the drivers are provided with Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) breakers
