The Project Engineer is responsible for managing power systems projects, industrial engine projects, and uninterruptable power systems projects from award to completion. The Project Engineer also provides technical support for the Power Systems Sales Representatives, consultants, and customers for current, past, and future projects.  The Project Engineer must be able to manage multiple priorities at one time, work as a team member, and perform independently with little supervision.   Relationships will be maintained with Caterpillar, end users, consultants, contractors, sales coordinators, service managers, service dispatchers, technicians and equipment manufacturers as well as other dealers.  Individuals must embrace new technologies and be comfortable using new software and hardware products.  The Project Engineer must demonstrate initiative, resilience, sense of urgency, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner.  A valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle are requirements for this position.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Manage all aspects of projects from award to completion
  • Size gensets, industrial engines, and UPS units based on customer information 
  • Provide Autocad drawings for submittals Review project submittals and outside vendor information for compliance 
  • Attend customer project meetings
  • Develop project specifications for customers, consultants, and contractors 
  • Maintain detailed communications and records
  • Provide technical support for Power Systems Sales Representatives, consultants, and customers for current, past, and future projects. 
  • Provide pre-startup inspections as needed 
  • Provide onsite support during startup of large projects
  • Coordinate startup with Service Department Provide customer training if necessary 
  • Make site visits with Sales Representatives to survey power system needs and make recommendations for customer solutions 
  • Resolve problems with Sales Representatives, customers, consultants, and contractors
  • Host customers/engineers/contractors during factory training events

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors degree required (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering)

Experience

  • Working knowledge of generators, engines, switchgear, automatic transfer switches and UPS units.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.

Candidates must possess the ability to quickly acquire the following required Skills and Competencies:

Work is typically performed in a company office, worksite, or shop environment. Exposure to physical risk and variable weather conditions is associated with this position. Sitting for extended periods of time, driving for extended periods of time, and standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
