Power Generation Field Service Technician - 2nd Shift

Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled Power Generation Field Service Technician to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of CAT engines and generators (up to 3000 kW). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent diagnostic abilities, and a customer-focused mindset. This is a field-based role with direct interaction with commercial clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission, maintain, and repair of CAT engines and generators (diesel, natural gas, biogas) up to 3000 kW.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure generator reliability.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using industry tools and procedures.
- Conduct load bank testing and performance assessments.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts inventory.
- Provide customer training and support on generator operation and maintenance.
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with peers and technical support teams to resolve complex issues.
- Stay informed on industry advancements and CAT technologies.
- Represent Fabick Cat professionally while on customer sites.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred (electrical or mechanical field).
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience servicing power generators (50 kW–3000 kW).
- In-depth knowledge of CAT generator systems, including engines, control systems, and electrical components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel to job sites within assigned territory.
- Knowledge of control panels and switchgear is a plus.
Hours & Location: 2:30 PM - 1:00 AM - servings the Northeastern WI area.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with CAT-specific diagnostic tools and software (e.g., CAT ET, SIS)
- Knowledge of generator control panels, switchgear, and paralleling systems
- Previous experience in customer-facing field service roles
- Factory training or OEM certification from Caterpillar or equivalent
- Strong computer skills for documentation and reporting using service platforms
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor and industrial settings.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed.
- Technician travel will consist of Wisconsin and will be assigned to the territory surrounding the branch of hire. Average of 55 hours per week, but additional OT is offered if desired. Less than 15% of overnight travel is annually.
