We are hiring an experienced Lead Service Technician for our PMC heavy equipment location in Natchez. The Lead Service Technician is responsible is responsible for coordinating the work assignments of a group of service technicians and also actively participating in the set-up, repair, service, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and installation of replacement parts on Caterpillar diesel powered heavy equipment.

This is an intermediate level skilled trade position working in a shop environment. The position reports to the Service Supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the service supervisor, plan and coordinate the function of assigned team of service technicians to ensure that all functions are safely performed at a consistently high level of quality and customer satisfaction. Prepare and coordinate assignments; collect and audit timecards. Provide assistance to subordinates by diagnosing more complicated tasks and providing coaching on diagnostic techniques.

  • Disassemble, assemble, and install components and parts, including but not limited to powertrain, hydraulic, electrical AC/DC, and diesel engines in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards.

  • Identify the problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps.

  • Test, measure, and adjust engine and machine systems and components.

  • Research and determine reusability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.

  • Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts with supervisor.

  • Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.

  • Keep supervisor regularly apprised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns.

  • Prepare, inspect and test operate machines prior to delivery.

  • Maintain work area, tools, and equipment to promote a clean and safe environment.

  • Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.

  • Minimum 6-8 years previous hands-on work experience as a service technician repairing Caterpillar or competitor heavy equipment or applicable diagnostic and troubleshooting experience as a technician in an industrial or truck engine repair shop. Therein, a minimum of 1-3 years of lead technician or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Minimum attainment of CAT level 3 diesel technician training certification and ability to demonstrate competency therein required.

  • Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.

  • Solid mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines/engine failures, electrical and hydraulic systems.

  • Proficient in the use of mechanical test equipment.

  • Ability to safely use material handling equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 8 and 10 hours.

  • Good problem-solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.

  • Good computer skills using related information system applications (ex: SIS, DBS).

  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced service environment.

  • Ability to work standard five-day work schedule, including daily overtime, and occasional weekend hours as necessary.

Other Job Requirements:

  • Possess a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools including drives, sockets, and wrenches.
