JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant II will prepare tax schedules and reports for state and city sales, lease/rental inventories, personal property, real estate, hazardous waste, environmental quality, and fuel taxes. The role will facilitate the import/export of equipment and parts for all internal and external divisions and subsidiaries. The role will complete screenings for all transactions with foreign entities, customs brokers common carriers, persons coming onsite for US Defense Contractors, and prospective clients. Must facilitate, provide required documentation and correspondence for the import and export of equipment and parts. Meticulously review, monitor, and make recommendations for internal control improvement. Act as a tax consulting liaison, approve all Sales for Tax compliance and provide advice for all internal departments. Monitor all government required reports and licenses for the organization and designated subsidiaries. Assist the Tax Manager to minimize organization's liability during audits by governmental agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Prepares sales tax reports for various states, cities, and tribes, and prepare tax schedules for lease/rental inventories, personal property, real estate.
• Facilitate import/export of equipment and parts for all divisions and subsidiaries. Assist Account Managers, Sales managers with determining appropriate InCo Term (International Commercial Terms) in sales contracts for importing and exporting.
• Complete screenings for all transactions with foreign entities, customs brokers common carriers, persons coming onsite for US Defense Contractors, and prospective clients.
• Provide Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) information for self-propelled units entering the USA.
• Provide documentation and correspondence with USA Customs on international transactions.
• Coordinate with international brokers and carriers to ensure all documentation is in order before machines arrive at USA or international ports.
• Facilitate payment to foreign equipment brokers for equipment by escrow, letters of credit or in other currencies.
• Track, review and report units for all international travel for Empire Southwest and subsidiaries.
• Prepare hazardous waste, environmental quality, and fuel tax reports on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
• Daily review and approve machine sales for sales tax accuracy.
• Daily review, approve or decline, and maintain client sales tax exemption forms.
• Research various state sales tax laws and rulings to ensure company compliance when reviewing machine sales for clients inside and outside of our territory.
• Declare all properties owned by the organization to appropriate counties.
• Coordinate and implement all tax law changes with outside tax consultants. Ensure tax law changes are implemented in reporting procedures.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly Empire Transport (ETCO) fuel and motor carrier tax schedules for all applicable states. Maintain and coordinate ETCO licensing with outside consultant.
• Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain internal tax reference library.
• Communicate applicable tax law changes to the appropriate department personnel.
• Assist in the preparation of all schedules and information needed for Federal and State Income Tax returns.
• Assist sales personnel to resolve client tax issue concerns and provide written determinations to clients after consulting with applicable governmental agencies.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Must have interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills adequate to explain findings to management.
• Must be able to analyze financial and operational systems using accepted auditing techniques such as flow charting, and quantitative methods.
• Must have knowledge of internal computer systems and software, including financial software.
• Must have extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software program.
• Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Minimum of 4 years of college level accounting education or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of tax and/or accounting experience.
• Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
