Job Summary:  This position is responsible for performing manufacturing welding of various products and components, following established procedures and guidelines.  Can work independently and as a member of a team to provide welding services that satisfy internal and external customer requirements and achieve manufacturing goals.  Hours for this position are Monday through Friday - 6:00am - 4:30pm.


Mid-level position – Generally has a minimum of six years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills and has obtained welding certifications in the FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes (1-4 G/F). The MFG Welder 4 has extensive knowledge of standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures; performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is indirectly supervised and self-starting; a team member of product production and workflow; displaying low levels of leadership skills in training, coaching, mentoring and development of innovation in processes/procedures.

Essential Functions:



  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission 

  • Performs and assists in development of weld guidelines and procedures for subassemblies and full product utilizing various tools and fixtures

  • Communicates with team on established standard work variances on production line processes

  • Partners with engineering to develop new fabrication weldment procedures, utilizing drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols in coordination with current standard work 

  • Participates in Rapid Improvement Workshops (RIWs) and Kiazen events to continuously improve processes, safety, and quality

  • Performs skills to interpret blueprints, drawings, and all welding processes through weld symbols and call outs

  • Performs basic skills to complete work orders, fabrication, and welding on product and their components

  • Ensures all weldments are in compliance with specific welding codes, procedures, and quality standards

  • Performs complex carbon arc gouging, oxy/acetylene and plasma torch cutting and welding of multiple different welding processes

  • Performs and completes tasks with minimal supervision

  • Assists with training, coaching, and mentoring MFG Welders

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; (e.g., ProTech Welder Training Paths)

  • Transports material in area or between areas utilizing overhead crane, jibs, carts, magnets and other devices

  • Works as a member of the manufacturing team to provide high quality products that satisfy the customer (internal and external) and achieves manufacturing goals

  • Develops processes and maintains the performance of equipment and work area through regular operator checks and maintenance resulting in operational equipment and work areas in good, clean and orderly condition (Operator Performed Maintenance – OPM, and 5S)

  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures and standards 

  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects

  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations

  • Performs quality inspections, complete reports, documents and/or any other necessary paperwork, and enforces required rework prior to customer

  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs 

  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance

  • Performs other duties as assigned 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees at different levels of the organization

  • Extensive knowledge of equipment and dimensional tools, including their uses, and maintenance

  • Extensive knowledge of specification and drawing interpretations; e.g. drawings, blueprints and computers and use of equipment needed to fabricate and perform the tasks at hand 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with welding symbols and construction math 

  • Knowledge of multiple welding areas across multiple manufacturing value streams

  • Well-developed technical skills, an expert welder, and fabricator

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to read, write, and understand information 

  • Demonstrates proficiency skill with a cutting and plasma torch, layout and fit up tools, blueprints, drawings, and defined welding processes

  • The ability to demonstrate technical skills as a skilled welder and fabricator to effectively perform assigned welding tasks

  • Adaptable to changing schedules and exhibits time management skills

  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting and standard operating procedures when performing welding processes

  • Ability to develop thinking and problem solving skills to learn and understand Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) process 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a strong work ethic being dependable, reliable and honest with demonstrated integrity

  • Ability to create and follow standard work to ensure quality work

  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in fabrication and welding

  • Ability to work in confined space entry; Methane/02 Deficiency

  • PC skills to use MS Office and HOLT Operating System (Epicor, SIS) required


Education and Experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 

  • A minimum of six years’ of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required; eight or more years preferred 

  • Multiple Welding Certifications required in the FCAW and GMAW welding processes in the 1-4 G/F positions. GTAW preferred

  • Valid Driver’s license required 


Physical Requirements:



  • Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching

  • Constant movement and use of limbs, hands, this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina

  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment 

  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment

  • Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lb.

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

  • May be required to work in confined workspaces, awkward positions and high places 


Work Environment:



  • Requires wearing proper protective and safety equipment (PPE)

  • Regularly works indoors around moving equipment and exposed to flashes of light from welding, and loud noise levels; may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity

  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water and high-speed rotating equipment

  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or on elevated surfaces

  • Possible exposure to minor burns and cuts – must be reported for proper treatment
