Estimating-Purchasing Manager
The Estimating Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing direct estimator reports and ensuring adherence to best practices in the estimating processes. They will develop and establish necessary structure and standards to align the estimating department to the mission of successfully bidding and securing projects. They will also be responsible for directly estimating/bidding new projects. This includes identifying and understanding project requirements and designs, determining key variables, and directing/influencing based on technical knowledge with both internal and external entities to HOLT Renewables.
The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development; 4) Lead the estimating team and demonstrate appropriate coaching and mentoring responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
- Hires, develops, evaluates, and influences effective and consistent productivity and teamwork to ensure the delivery of Legendary Customer Service (LCS)
- Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
- Gather and analyze technical information, drawings sets, and specifications to determine design and component options and requirements for product
- Analyze with team members the conditions and processes necessary to reach goal – timing & cost
- Understand project requirements and determine key variables for cost and other estimates
- Review critical components with vendors to understand cost effectiveness and compatibility
- Implement use of relevant software for data analysis to continuously improve quoting process
- Creating and maintaining open lines of communication between internal departments such as project manager, engineering, business development, and management
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Leverages knowledge from a commercial and costing view to influence value engineering and project feasibility
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to analyze and synthesize complex, technical content
- Strong technical aptitude – ability to quickly learn new concepts and tools
- Strategic thinker with very strong quantitative and qualitative analytic abilities and creative problem-solving skills
- Desire and ability to innovate and improve upon current processes
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including ability to consult with engineering, support, management, and customers
- Comfortable working in a deadline driven environment – composure when under pressure
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong familiarity with subcontractor and vendor relationships in order to appropriately vet their capabilities and compatibility on projects
- Acumen of PVBid or related estimating tools
- Procurement experience assessing proper material pricing strategies, lead times and appropriate compatibility with projects
- Team leader that is able to encourage growth of key skill sets to successful advance our estimating practices
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in technical field – engineering, business, mathematics preferred
- 8+ years’ experience working as Estimator; proven experience as an estimator or in similar position required
- Experience in renewable energy systems specifically solar and energy storage
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position directs and manages the estimating department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and development; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travel:
- Up to 10%
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Communicates with customers and co-workers – Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
Work Environment:
- Industry standard PPE and appropriate safety equipment required
- This job is performed mostly in a professional office environment indoors
- Frequently works at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
