Accounting Specialist I – A/P

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for setting up and maintaining vendor accounts and processing vendor payments.



  • Sets up and maintains vendor accounts.
  • Reconciles vendor statements for accuracy.
  • Works directly with vendors requesting invoice copies as needed.
  • Works with internal departments to get invoices approved and processed.
  • Processes vendor invoices for payment.
  • Reviews accounts and data for accuracy.
  • Resolves vendor invoice inquires verbally, in writing or other communication as needed.
  • Maintains sub-ledger.
  • Supports accounting department staff as needed.
  • Adheres to all customer care standards.
  • Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States.  Adhere to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Serves as a team member in support of Western States’ strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems required.
  • Ability to learn enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Consistent attendance.



  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 1 year minimum of general accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of accounting software preferred.
  • ERP software experience preferred
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).                   



  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
