Position Overview:

Planners are responsible for the day to day tactical planning of their assigned value stream. Responsibilities include end-to-end supply chain management and production planning within the assigned value stream. Planners are accountable for maintaining positive customer relationships, demand fulfillment, parts availability, making seeding recommendations, plan attainment, revenue and profitability for their assigned value stream.

Job Description:

  • Coordinate daily production activities between Production Managers to ensure production objectives are met – this includes scheduling work, communicating delays, generation of production reports and coordinating pre-job meetings when required
  • Reconcile schedule attainment for daily, weekly, and monthly plans
  • Coordinate material availability with the material supply team and schedule jobs accordingly
  • Coordinate with Planners, Team Leaders, Area Manager, Production Managers, Material Handling & Supply staff for the assigned shop area so that production activities occur in an efficient manner
  • Communicate customer requirements to the shop floor and accommodate said requirements in a production plan that also meets corporate objectives
  • Update the operating system to maintain up-to-date status information
  • Monitor stock and consolidate emergency orders to replenish parts inventory, fill customer backorders, or supplement stock in supply constrained situations and maintain accurate records and parts tracking/order systems
  • Expedite emergency orders to achieve the highest reasonable level of service appropriate to the need; while considering vendor cut times, transportation alternatives, in-transit times, freight rates and vendor policies

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience or an acceptable combination of education and work experience
  • Experience in production planning and supply chain management
  • Thorough knowledge of planning and expediting activities
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of broad or deep experiences in end-to-end supply chain management within heavy equipment, automotive, utilities, mining, parts or retail industry would be preferred
  • Practical experience and theoretical knowledge of production planning and inventory management is required to optimize parts supply chain
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated skill with written and oral communication
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, advanced level in excel and internal systems
  • Experience in Finning Parts Department roles, including warehouse, front counter and inventory control would be an asset
  • Caterpillar product knowledge would be an asset
  • Experience with Lawson system/MRP would be an asset
  • Ability to utilize a variety of software tools (databases, spreadsheets, flowcharts etc.) to perform forecasting, modelling, analysis, simulations & flow chart functions would be an asset
  • Experience or exposure to transportation and logistics, warehousing and distribution, contracts management, sourcing and category management, master data management would be an asset

  • This positions is a Monday-Friday, 5x2 shift
