Machinist/Welder

N C Machinery is currently looking for a Welder/Machinist Technician in our Yakima, WA location. To be successful in this position you should have a strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of tools applicable to the position.  In this position, you will be working in the shop and out in the field with some travel as needed. Your primary duties will be repair, recondition, weld, fabricate and service CAT machines and components for customer delivery. Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions and failures of machines, engines, machine systems and components.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate welding equipment. Perform arc welding, air arc, gas welding and cutting in vertical, flat and overhead position using correct temperatures and procedures for the type of material being welded. 
  • Use or learn to use bore welding and machining equipment.
  • Repair, recondition, weld, fabricate, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Determine parts reusability in accordance with published reusability guidelines. Order replacements and arrange for repairs.
  • Safely work in both shop and field environments and follow all company safety guidelines.
  • Read and understand service materials.  

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Prior experience in welding is required with technical skill competence.
  • Basic experience running machine equipment.
  • Ability to safely lift metal sheets and read measuring tooling.
  • Basic technician skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment.

A high school diploma or equivalent or a graduate of a 2-4 year vocational technical school training institution or equivalent experience is required. A valid driver's license is vital as it will be used for potential forklift driving and operation of equipment such as hydraulic and mechanical presses, hoists, cranes, pressure washers, and more. You will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office Products and Outlook. This role requires the ability to stand up to eight hours per day and includes twisting, bending, squatting, sitting stooping and kneeling. Flexibility to travel for extended periods of time to work with our customers will be required. Experience working at a Caterpillar (CAT) dealership or with CAT products is ideal.
