Reporting to the Workshop Manager or Workshop Coordinator, the Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance operations across the MPA (Maintenance Partnership Agreement) site. You will lead a team of tradespeople and Leading Hands, drive operational excellence, and uphold WesTrac’s commitment to safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.

 

This position is ideal for an experienced trades professional with strong supervisory capability, a passion for developing people, and the ability to deliver results in a dynamic, high‑performance environment.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a safe, compliant work environment by enforcing WesTrac and customer safety standards and ensuring all incidents and hazards are promptly managed.
  • Oversee daily maintenance activities to meet machine availability, reliability, and performance KPIs.
  • Coordinate scheduled/unscheduled repairs, breakdowns, backlog work, and customer‑specific tasks to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain contamination control at or above 3‑Star standard and ensure high job quality with minimal rework.
  • Provide clear leadership, coaching, performance reviews, and conflict resolution aligned with SPARC values.
  • Communicate objectives, monitor team KPIs, and act as the escalation point for Parts/Tool Store issues.
  • Manage onsite expenditure, labour allocation, timesheet approval, and accurate AMT work order data.
  • Validate vendor invoices, support planning and forecasting, and manage warranty opportunities.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices, including CPS and MSR, to enhance efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Facilitate effective shift handovers and maintain strong collaboration with planning, reliability, and customer teams.

 

What You’ll Bring

 

Essential

  • Trade qualification (Plant Mechanic or Auto Electrician) with minimum 5 years’ post‑trade experience.
  • At least 2 years’ supervisory experience with demonstrated coaching and mentoring capability.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance operations and basic financial principles.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Intermediate computer literacy (MS Office, web‑based systems).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational capability.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.

Desirable

  • Experience within a Caterpillar dealer environment.
  • CPS/Lean/6 Sigma Green Belt qualification.
  • Certificate IV Frontline Management or Diploma of Management.
